
Jeff Cook
Jeff is an information assurance and public accounting professional with over 10 years of IT audit and consulting experience and over 20 years of experience in public accounting and auditing. Jeff has worked extensively on SOC in addition to providing IT audit support for traditional financial statement audits. Jeff also has functional knowledge of ISO standards,
CSA STAR, C5, FISMA, and FedRAMP.
Jeff started his career at Arthur Andersen in its financial audit practice, then Aronson, a regional CPA firm in the DC area, becoming a principal consultant and founder of the firm's IT Audit and Advisory Group. After leaving traditional CPA firms, Jeff went on to join Veris Group, a cybersecurity professional services firm based out of DC, helping to establish their SOC reporting practice and affiliated CPA firm. At both Aronson and Veris, Jeff was responsible for the firm's issuing their first SOC 2 reports.
When Veris was acquired, Jeff joined the SOC practice at Coalfire as a principal and was responsible for quality control in SOC reporting and issued the firm's first SOC for Cybersecurity report. After Coalfire, Jeff was the CFO of ByteChek, a cybersecurity software and services company. Now Jeff is back in his role as a SOC 2 expert, this time at Fortreum, a professional services company that focuses on FedRAMP and other NIST-based engagements, with Jeff giving the ability to provide SOC to Fortreum's clients.
Jeff is also heavily involved with the AICPA, volunteering with development of the SOC and CITP programs. Jeff is a part of the SOC 2 working group (which helps develop the AICPA SOC 2 guide), has developed numerous trainings for the AICPA, and is a prior recipient of the AICPA IMTA Standing Ovation Award for outstanding professional achievement in the IT specialization area.
Jeff was a part of the AICPA CITP credential committee, the AICPA IMTA SOC task force, and the AICPA Eye on Technology task force. Jeff is also a Board Member for Community IT, a Washington, DC based managed service provider for non-profits. Jeff is a prior board member for the Maryland Association of CPAs.
Jeff earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Loyola College in Maryland and a Master of Science in Information Assurance from the University of Maryland University College. He is a lead auditor for the ISO 22301 standard and holds certifications as a CPA, CITP, CISA, CIPT, and CCSK.
