John Armour, CPA is nationally recognized as a leading authority and expert in construction accounting and taxation. After receiving his BBA in Accounting from the University of North Texas, he practiced with a regional firm in Dallas where his knowledge of the construction industry learned from his family's contractor businesses was leveraged to client engagements. John joined Brockmann, Armour & Company, a construction specialty CPA firm in Denver in 1972 and became partner in 1974 and managing partner in 1982. The firm was acquired by CBIZ and Mayer Hoffman McCann, PC in 2004 where he served as west region director of construction and engineering services. John retired from MHM in 2014 and CBIZ in 2015 and currently provides strategic consulting and training for contractors and specialty CPA firms. For 25 years, John taught construction accounting and tax programs for CPA societies and select CPA firms and was a speaker to construction trade associations and conferences, including CFMA's Annual Conference & Exhibition and the AGCCFMA Construction Financial Management Conference. He served from 2001-2005 as chair of the AICPA National Construction Industry Conference planning committee. He is a past President of the Colorado Society of CPAs and has served on the AICPA Council. John is active in construction trade associations, and is a founding member of CFMA's Colorado Chapter. He has served on various committees and advisory capacities including thought leadership of accounting and tax policy of AGC of America's Financial Issues Committee. In this capacity since 2005 he worked with the FASB on developing its Revenue Recognition standard. In 2013, he was appointed to the 19 member FASB IASB Revenue Recognition Transition Resource Group and the AICPA's Engineering & Construction Revenue Recognition Working Group.
