Shehzad ("Shaz") Niazi is the Deputy Chief Counsel in the SEC's Office of the Chief Accountant, where he assists the Chief Counsel in managing a team of attorneys and accountants working on legal policy and enforcement matters relating to financial disclosure, accounting, auditing, and internal controls. His career in public service started in 2010, previously working in the Division of Corporation Finance and the Office of the General Counsel before joining the Office of the Chief Accountant in early 2021. Prior to public service, Shaz was an M&A and Securities associate at a major, international law firm based in Washington, D.C. He graduated with honors from the University of Richmond School of Law and Washington and Lee University.
