John Alfonso is the leader of CohnReznick's Not-for-Profit & Education Industry practice which serves over 1,700 organizations nationwide. With over 35 years of experience, he has dedicated his career to helping make not-for-profit organizations' missions possible. Serving in a variety of client service roles, John's clients have included community development corporations, educational institutions, faith-based organizations, museums, private foundations, professional and trade associations, and social service agencies. He is deeply committed to supporting organizations that are making a difference in our communities. John has held volunteer leadership roles in several nationally recognized not-for-profit organizations and is a 30+ year volunteer with the American Cancer Society. In 2021, John was appointed chair of the Society's national Board of Directors and prior to this, chaired its national Audit & Risk Committee and the Finance Committee. John received the Society's St. George National Award in 2014 and became an Honorary Life Member in 2022. He currently serves on the Society's Greater New York City Area Board. In addition to his work with the American Cancer Society, John is a member Financial Accounting Standards Board's Not-for-Profit Advisory Committee (NAC). He serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and is the Treasurer of the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce. John also serves as an advisor to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors of the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation. John is a frequent panelist, moderator, and lecturer on not-for-profit accounting standards, board governance, risk management, and information technology.
