Managing Director, Deal Advisory – Accounting Advisory Services


Michael is a managing director in KPMG’s Deal Advisory – Accounting Advisory Services practice. With over 15 years of financial services industry and professional services experience, Michael’s strengths are in accounting and reporting, credit loss, technology development, and internal controls. Michael also has extensive experience in CECL and IFRS 9. Most recently, he has led projects supporting buyside M&A that includes supporting valuation, calculating purchase price adjustment for financial assets, and assisting with integration of various acquisition target accounting methodologies, data, and reporting.

Additionally, Michael was the lead implementing accounting change for the US entities of a large dual filing (IFRS / US GAAP) global bank. The scope of this two year implementation included technical accounting topics, accounting policy review, allowance process redevelopment, internal controls, internal and external audit support, regulatory examination support, and project management. Previously, he was a lead on KPMG’s rollout of an internally developed IFRS 9/CECL impairment system. Michael’s primary responsibility was to support system design, user testing, controls design, and troubleshooting implementation issues. He trained local risk and accounting teams to connect risk and accounting policies to process and operational practices when implementing IFRS 9/CECL.

Professional and Industry Experience

Michael also has experience consulting for US Federal regulators, Fortune 100 financial institutions, and regional banks. His experience includes:

      • Extensive systems development, implementation and testing. Using KPMG’s internal IFRS 9/CECL system, Michael has led multiple engagements leveraging KPMG’s loan and loan loss accounting technology as both a stop-gap and permanent solution supporting client production and one-time analyses.
      • Leading data and disclosure automation reporting workstream for a large bank during the design phase for its accounting change implementation. Documenting current state loan disclosure data, framing the key issues management process, and building the implementation governance documentation.
      • Leading the CECL workstream for a global bank that was updating their technology for CECL and assisting with the documentation and analysis of critical data elements,
      • Project management for various operations compliance, and related regulatory change management projects,
