Experience

Charles is a Managing Director in Grant Thornton's Charlotte, North Carolina office. He manages and coordinates the technical and administrative aspects of valuation and financial consulting engagements on a local, regional and national basis.  Charles also serves as the Professional Standards and Technical Director for Grant Thornton's Valuation practice.

Industry experience

Charles has been actively engaged in financial valuation and consulting since 1994. Prior to joining Grant Thornton, he spent 8 years in the valuation practice at a Big Five public accounting firm. Prior to his public accounting experience, Charles was a middle-market corporate lender with a  major financial institution. Charles specializes in the valuation and analysis of equity securities and financial and intangible assets. He has conducted valuation assignments for mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, shareholder disputes, allocations of purchase price and tax planning in a broad variety of industries. He has extensive experience in valuing companies in the manufacturing, distribution, health care and financial services industries, as well as valuing start-up and emerging growth companies

Professional qualifications and memberships

Certifications: Charles is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of North Carolina (License Number 23827) and has been awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He has also earned the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) designation from the AICPA.

Affiliations: Charles is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the CFA Institute, and the CFA North Carolina Society.

Education

Charles holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance from Clemson University, and a Masters in Taxation from the University of South Carolina.
