Dan Wise, CPA, is a director at CohnReznick, a member of the Firm’s National Tax Practice, and Leads CohnReznick’s Tax Controversy Practice. Dan has over 30 years of diversified public accounting and private accounting experience, with an extensive background in providing tax services to clients in the energy, private equity, real estate, hedge fund, not-for-profit, construction, and technology industries. A licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York, New Jersey, and Israel, Dan’s expertise includes federal, state and local, and international tax planning, research, and compliance. Dan has provided guidance on a wide array of tax services in relation to corporate and partnership structuring, including complex partnership allocations, transactional planning, and information reporting; due diligence in the context of divestitures and acquisitions; and IRS examination support, which resulted in no-change results in complex and high-stakes situations. Dan brings additional significant experience with treaty planning, transfer pricing issues, expatriate taxation, cost segregation, and financial statement issues under ASC 740. Additionally, he has led income tax compliance for a group of private equity funds in the power, real estate, and hedge/financial spaces, captaining those efforts as that group grew by over 300% over seven years. Dan was also a CFO of a 501(c)(3) FQHC, which underwent OMB Circular A-133 audits. As leader of the firm’s Tax Controversy Practice, Dan’s role includes that of head of tax risk with a focus on ensuring that exposures are managed appropriately before a client’s taking a challengeable tax position and stewarding the process, should an exam occur, toward a favorable resolution for clients.
