Brett Baker

Dr. Brett Baker was appointed Inspector General of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in 2021. He is responsible for independent oversight of NARA's programs and operations. He also recently served as the Acting Inspector General at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and as the NARA IG. He previously served as the Assistant Inspector General for Audit (AIGA) at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Office of Inspector General (OIG). He also worked as the Deputy Inspector General for Audit for the Department of Defense OIG, AIGA at the National Science Foundation OIG, AIGA at the Department of Commerce OIG, and the Director for Internal Review at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service where he was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in 2005. He began his audit career at the Department of Education OIG. Dr. Baker is also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Dr. Baker earned an information technology and systems management doctorate from the University of Maryland University College. He holds a master's degree in information systems management from Central Michigan University, a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa, and a bachelor's degree in sociology from Iowa State University. Dr. Baker is also a recipient of a Presidential Rank Award (Meritorious Executive) He is a recipient of the JFMIP Donald L. Scantlebury Award for Excellence in Financial Management and the AGA Elmer Staats Award for career excellence in government service. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Information System Auditor.
