Jared Smith is the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) Chief Statistician and Director of the Center for Statistics and Data Analysis. He oversees and conducts sophisticated statistical analyses for numerous GAO engagements, such as GAO’s estimates of governmentwide and pandemic unemployment insurance fraud. Prior to joining GAO in 2021, Jared previously served as the Director of Quantitative Methods at the Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General. Jared received a PhD in psychology from University of California, Irvine with a dissertation in the subfield of mathematical psychology and a Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University.
