Ben Hunter III
BIO FOR BEN HUNTER III, CISO CPA/CITP, CISA, CRISC, CDPSE, CISM
Ben Hunter is a Principal with UHY LLP. In this role, Ben is responsible for the overall management of Technology, Risk & Compliance (TRC) in the Great Lakes region, the oversight of client relationships, the development of existing and new service lines, as well as oversight for compliance with AICPA and other regulatory standards. Previously, Ben was a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and led the SOC Report practice and the Cybersecurity, Risk, and IT Audit consulting practice.
He specializes in System and Organization Control reporting (SOC 1®, SOC 2®, SOC 3®, SOC for Cybersecurity and SOC for Supply Chain), Cybersecurity Assessments, HIPAA Assessments, and Information Technology Control Audits and Assessments (ISO, NIST, FFIEC, CMMC, GLBA, SOX), Phishing/Ransomware awareness and security training, Business Continuity Planning/Disaster Recovery (BCP/DR) planning and testing, and Vulnerability Management.
Ben began his cybersecurity career in the US Marine Corps. After his service, Ben went to UNC Greensboro and earned his Master of Science in Accounting. After becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), he continued his cybersecurity and IT Audit training by obtaining the ISACA certifications:
Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA),
Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC),
Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE)
Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
Ben also obtained the AICPA Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) credential.
Ben speaks at a variety of organizations, including AICPA conferences, NCACPA conferences, ISACA chapter meetings, rotary clubs, professional organizations, universities, and CPE events.
Ben is a member of the AICPA, the NCACPA, and ISACA.
Ben served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Portugal. Ben has been married for 25 years and has 4 children.
