Executive Financial Planner
Sensible Money

Oscar is a financial planner with a passion for helping his clients reach their retirement and life goals. He particularly enjoys taking a complex subject, such as personal finance, and making it easy to digest. Oscar has helped many families transition into retirement, which includes working with business owners in the transition of their company. He has also helped many widows navigate the financial challenges that come with losing a spouse.

Oscar’s interest in personal finance came early in life, as he witnessed the struggles of being raised by a single mother. During his teenage years, he began to read finance books. Over time, he realized he could marry the love of math with his desire to help people. His career in financial planning formally began in 2007, when his high school principal connected him with his personal financial planner during his senior year. This led to an offer to join the firm, and the rest is history.

Prior to joining Sensible Money, Oscar worked at PNC Private Bank, PEACE Wealth Management, and Deloitte (the largest accounting firm in the world).  While at the University of North Florida, Oscar was a member of the Osprey Financial Group, where he helped to invest a portion of the University’s Endowment as an equity analyst.

Oscar holds the Certified Public Accountant, Personal Financial Specialist, and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designations. Oscar graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and financial planning from the University of North Florida. Through his involvement in national organizations, Oscar has been quoted in various financial outlets including CNBC, Financial Advisor Magazine, The Journal of Accountancy, Investopedia, US News and The Street. Further, he’s presented nationwide on various financial/retirement planning topics.

Oscar is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and is the current chair of the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) Credential Committee. Oscar is also on the AICPA’s Personal Financial Planning Conference Committee. He has been recognized by the AICPA’s Standing Ovation Program for his professional achievements in personal financial planning. He also serves on the council of professional advisors for the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay.

Outside of work, Oscar loves spending time with his wife and three boys. He enjoys dancing salsa, watching romantic comedies with his wife, and serving in their church with the children and marriage ministries as well as teaching bible studies.
