Terry K. Patton, PhD, CPA, CGMA, CGFM, serves as a board member on the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB), which establishes financial reporting standards for the United States federal government.  He is a coauthor of the first, second, and third edition of the textbook, Accounting for Governmental and Nonprofit Organizations, which is published by Cambridge Business Publishers. Dr. Patton received his bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University, a master's degree from the University of North Texas, and a Ph.D. from Texas Tech University..

Dr. Patton is professor emeritus at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he taught governmental and nonprofit accounting, as well as auditing and financial accounting. Dr. Patton began his career in public accounting in Wichita Falls, where he audited businesses and local governments. Later, he served as a project manager and as the research manager for the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) .  He also served on the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council (GASAC), which consults with the GASB on technical issues. He has coauthored a governmental accounting book for practitioners, Guide to Governmental Financial Reporting Model: Implementing GASBS No. 34. He has published articles in the Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and the Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting, and Financial Management, among others.
