
Susan Wheeler
Susan Wheeler is a partner at EY and brings over 30 years of experience in providing assurance services to a diverse range of EY clients, particularly within the government and public sector. She possesses extensive expertise in navigating government audit, accounting, and reporting challenges, and is adept at conducting audits in compliance with the Uniform Guidance requirements.
In her role, Susan acts as the coordinating partner or independent review partner for various assurance and advisory engagements involving state and local government entities, including agencies and authorities across the United States. Susan assists clients in the preparation and submission of their Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR) to achieve the Government Finance Association's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. Additionally, she volunteers her time with the GFOA to review ACFR submissions for this program.
As a member of EY's Americas Professional Practice, Susan leads EY's development of technical resources used by assurance teams. In this national role, she serves as a subject matter resource on accounting advisory projects and provides technical accounting support to assurance teams throughout the United States and its territories. She is a member of the AICPA's State and Local Government Expert Panel. In her capacity as a technical resource, Susan functions as an assurance quality reviewer and peer reviewer for audits of government entities. She develops and leads internal and external training courses on governmental accounting and auditing, including the EY annual executive course on government accounting and auditing.
Susan is a certified public accountant and a graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Susan is also active in her community and serves on a number of nonprofit and professional organization board of directors.
