Kristin N. Capritto is a partner at Downey Brand, LLP, in Sacramento, California. She works with high net-worth families and individuals to effectuate their wealth transfer and succession planning goals, and regularly advises clients in connection with entity formation and management, including tax-exempt entities and private foundations. Her practice includes agricultural related real estate transactions and the transition of Ag-related businesses to successor generations. She also litigates trusts and estates matters in state and federal courts.

Ms. Capritto is regularly invited to present on estate planning, transfer tax, and fiduciary matters at leading programs, including the Hawaii Tax Institute, the California Lawyers Association Estate and Gift Tax Conference, Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB), as well as various county bar associations and charitable organizations. 

As Downey Brand’s Pro Bono Partner, Ms. Capritto has been nationally recognized for her work representing undocumented and unaccompanied minors, as well as for her representation of incarcerated individuals in civil rights cases. She has received more than 300 hours of advanced mediation training and has facilitated mediations and conflict management processes domestically and abroad.

Ms. Capritto received dual bachelors’ degrees from California State University, Chico, in Political Science and Philosophy, her master’s degree in conflict resolution from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, and her law degree from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she also served as adjunct professor.
