Concurrent Session Onsite and Online
NOT2418. PACs, Super PACs, and Dark Money: Electioneering in a Presidential Election Year
Like it or not, politics and elections are an ever-present part of our lives. They are also constantly on the minds of nonprofits. In this session, we will review the political line in the tax exempt space and how entities dance the line (and what happens when they cross it). We will review the legal implications and considerations of lobbying and political activities and address practical considerations for tax practitioners, like completion of Forms 990 Schedule C and 1120-POL.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify Sec. 527 and Sec. 501(c)(4) rules for political participation.
- Distinguish Forms 1120-POL and 990 reporting.
- Analyze lobbying and political activity reporting and record-keeping challenges in an election year.
- Determine proper completion of Schedule C, including identification of any traps for the unwary.
