John Pomeranz (BA Wesleyan University; JD, University of Southern California Law Center; LLM, Georgetown University Law Center) is the General Counsel of Community Change and Community Change Action, which work to build the power and capacity of low-income people, especially low-income people of color, to change the policies and institutions that impact their lives. John has advised nonprofit organizations for more than twenty years and is an expert on the law governing lobbying and election-related activity by tax-exempt organizations. He has conducted hundreds of popular workshops on the subject; has authored or co-authored works including "Keeping Track: A Guide to Recordkeeping for Advocacy Charities" and "E-Advocacy for Nonprofits: The Law of Lobbying and Election-Related Activity on the Net"; and has promoted public policies to support nonprofit advocacy. Previously, John represented nonprofit organizations as a partner in the Washington D.C. law firm of Harmon, Curran, Spielberg & Eisenberg, LLP, and, prior to that, served as Nonprofit Advocacy Director at the Alliance for Justice, where he worked with nonprofits around the country to enhance their capacity to participate in the policy process.
