When Bruce left the Entertainment Industry in 2002, no one could have predicted a career at the highest levels in the accounting space for him but that's exactly what happened. It was an alchemic mixture of sales acumen, a nose for what drives businesses towards excellence, and communication skills that resulted in more than 15 years as a c-suite executive at national accounting firms and a thought leader for the industry. His first national leadership position was at UHY Advisors where he undertook unifying a disparate group of regional marketers into an national team, brought the Firm's marketing onto the national stage, launched their first, firmwide industry specialization program. Here, he developed the ability to get not just the most but, also, the best out of his partners, marketers, and teammates. In 2010 following a merger, Bruce joined Marcum LLP and was, soon after, appointed their Chief Marketing Officer. Again, with a focus on people, the first order of business was to unite a national team and create an environment both within the marketing department and without of career excellence, respect, and reward. He had the privilege of being a member of firm leadership as the firm grew from a $250 million super regional company into an $800 million national player (as of 2021). In addition to that 3.5 x revenue growth and national expansion, Bruce conceived of and implemented many game changing strategies and tactics while at Marcum, including: co-created the first national LGBTQ+ speciality practice in the business, co-created national industry specialization strategy, launched the first national television and OTT campaign in the category, executed and integrated more than 15 mergers, and more. Bruce left Marcum in 2021 to open his own consultancy, Chief Seconds, based on the philosophy of "Useful is Beautiful" and to allow him to focus on creating champions throughout the accounting industry through collaborative strategy, individualized coaching, and operational design. There is no magic trick to it, he will tell you - only candor, care, vision, and accountability. A frequent speaker, author, essayist and podcaster, Bruce values a good conversation over most things. Bruce lives in the Greatest Small City in the World, New Haven, CT, with his wife, two kids, and a Blue Heeler named Lefty.
